With the new year in full swing, now is the perfect time to set new goals for yourself. While you are creating resolutions to get fit, pay off debt, or stop unhealthy habits, don’t forget about your hair. If your hair doesn’t look and feel top-notch, there are 6 easy resolutions you can make to get healthy hair in 2017.
Get Smarter about Your Shampoo
Not all shampoos are created equal. Often, we tend to turn to what’s affordable. This is a big mistake. Low-budget shampoos often contain sulfates, which are damaging and cause colored hair to fade faster. Don’t use clarifying shampoos because they will completely strip your hair. You need to choose a good quality shampoo that matches your hair type and a good cleansing conditioner. Personally, I recommend Nexxus products.
Protect Your Hair from Heat
If you use blow dryers, flat irons, or curling irons, your hair will thank you for using a heat protectant spray and a good conditioner. Conditioner is not just important for touchably-soft, smooth, frizz-free hair, but is also adds a coating to the hair. When choosing a conditioner, choose one that has “methicone” or “polyquarternium.” Leave your conditioner in for three to five minutes before rinsing.
Water is important for keeping your body hydrated. But, it is also important for your hair. Well-hydrated hair is stronger, making in less prone to breaking. By drinking 8 cups of water a day, your skin, hair, and body will show the difference.
Be Careful with Wet Hair
When your hair is wet, your hair is fragile and breaks easily. Never brush your hair when it is wet, do not wash your hair too vigorously, and do not put wet hair in tight pony tails or hairstyles. After you’ve washed your hair, wear a shower cap for a while to allow the hair to dry prior to brushing and styling.
Embrace the Cold
Your hair is very sensitive to heat. When washing your hair, use cold water. I know, no one likes cold showers. The water does not need to be ice cold. Instead, lower the water to room temperature.
Everyone deserves a little pampering, and so does your hair. Pamper yourself with a visit to your favorite Scottsdale salon for a deep conditioning or liquid keratin treatment to help renourish the hair. If you plan to dye your hair, skip the boxed dyes. Always have your hair colored by a professional. Finally, do not forget to have your hair cut regularly. Regular haircuts will help keep those split ends a bay while encouraging new hair growth.
